Another week begins

So once again, I sit here on a Sunday night.....doing the laundry.....checking my plan book for the school week ahead.  Basically taking stock before the week begins.

Now that the first week of May has come and gone, and it's now been 3 weeks since the Boston Marathon, I feel ready to actually start training again.  I don't have a schedule to work from, and I won't start training for Hartford until the 2nd week of June, but I think shooting for 25-30 miles a week over the next few weeks should be attainable, providing I stay focused.

And therein lies the problem.........as the school year winds inexorably down to a close, the pressure to get things done becomes more and more prevalent.  Curriculum needs to be completed, and as I'm going to be changing teams next year (and moving from teaching only 8th grade to a "split" team teaching both 7th and 8th grade), I've got preparations to start making for the coming school year.  It's going to be a busy few weeks!

So I think the best thing for me to do, running-wise, between now and the end of school is to get back in the swing of things and get out 3-4 times during the week and both days on the weekends.    A very simple solution........now I just need to shut up and DO IT!!!!

Congrats to all of you who got out there and raced this weekend, like Sara (http://rungingerfoxxxrun.blogspot.com/) and Felice (http://thehappyrunner.blogspot.com/), as well as all of you who just got out there and ran just because....

Have a great week everyone!

  1. hey there...thanks for the thoughts on my post!!! UGH...you're already thinking about next school year??????????? I can't seem to get through this one. so many CSE's, SCSE's. IEP's, benchmarkings and still district tests, tests, tests to get through...this is the first year ever I can't wait for it to end...funny how some years are great...and others are dreadful for some reason...good thing I still love the kids, huh?

Running always kept me sane and was a great release when teaching...I think your plan sounds like a good one! Just shut up and do it, right? ;)

    1. thinking about next year is helping me get through this one! We actually start 4 days of standardized (state) testing tomorrow, so I've got that to look forward to this week!

Oh yeah, I'm going to need to run this week....BIG TIME!!!!

  2. Wow you teach middle school! That explains why you run marathons- running all those miles must be nothing compared to your normal work day!

I do not have another marathon on my schedule but I have a few half marathons coming up...

I just decided to keep myself on a two/three weekday run and one long run on the weekend schedule so that when I do choose the next marathon, I'm not all stressed out about a training plan because I'll already sorta kinda be on one...

    1. I'm not sure if I teach middle school because I'm crazy, or run marathons because I'm crazy, or a bit of both, but I'm pretty sure there's a connection between the two! LOL

I like your plan......it's like having a plan, without actually having a plan!

Can't wait to read your full report from the marathon.......great job!!!

    1. it's exciting all right......I'm only a little terrified, but after 7 years of teaching 8th grade, it'll be a bit like going back to my first year again. I run because I like challenges, and I teach because I like challenges, so I guess I should just shut up and get on with it already!

I want one of those Pig medals........but Cincy is a long way from Boston. Maybe someday.......

  5. Sometimes I find the crazier the schedule the better I am about getting my runs in....I think because I so desperately need them that I'm determined to fit them in (if that makes sense!) Good luck with the final few weeks of school!
